Drishyam director Nishikant Kamat dies at 50 in Hyderabad

Director Nishikant Kamat breathed his last at AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad on Monday (August 17), hospital sources confirmed. He was 50. As per reports, he suffered from liver cirrhosis in the past which had relapsed. When his condition worsened, he was admitted to the Hospital.
The news of the director's death was confirmed by actor Riteish Deshmukh on Twitter. He wrote, "I will miss you my friend. #NishikantKamat Rest In Peace." On August 11, news of Nishikant Kumar's hospitalisation broke. After this, the hospital had issued a statement on his health condition that read, "Mr Nishikant Kamat (50 years, Male) was brought to AIG Hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 31st July with jaundice and abdominal distention. He has been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. "He is in the intensive care unit for continuous monitoring under supervision of a multi- disciplinary team of senior consultants comprising of Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Critical Care and others. Kamat was known for films like Drishyam, Madaari, Mumbai Meri Jaan, and more. He had also acted in a few Marathi films, namely Saatchya Aat Gharat, among others. His directorial debut with the Marathi film Dombivali Fast in 2005 went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year in Marathi cinema. The film was also critically acclaimed and bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2006. Nishikant Kamat was also seen playing the antagonist in John Abraham-starrer Rocky Handsome. He also acted in films like Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Fugly and Julie 2. He was working on his next, Darbadar, which was expected to release in 2022.
