In a raid conducted by the Excise department at Kathua, sleuths some country made liquor. They also destroyed nearly 1,500 kg of lahan.
According to officials, based on specific information that bootleggers have set up a still on the bank of a seasonal nullah in the higher reaches of the Ghat area of Kathua, a team of the Excise department conducted a raid early Friday morning and recovered some country made liquor. They also destroyed nearly 1,500 kg of lahan.
�Although bootleggers are shifting their distillation plants from one place to another to dodge us, we have strengthened our intelligence network to reach them,� Narinder Singh, head of the Eradication Wing of the Excise Department, said.
He said early Friday morning Excise Department sleuths destroyed a huge quantity of �desi� liquor. They also destroyed lahan during the predawn raids carried out to check the sale and distribution of illicit liquor in the Kathua area.
Raids were conducted at Ghati, Upper Suktechak and Barnoti area of Kathua district, he added.
In the last one month, the Excise Department has intensified a campaign to check the sale and distribution of illicit liquor in the rural areas where this menace has flourished during and after the lockdown.
