Amongst the many eco-friendly idols that are being made for this year's Ganesh Chaturthi, another interesting material is being used to make the same. Dr. Aditi Mittal from Surat in Gujarat has also joined the bandwagon. She came up with an 'edible' Ganesha idol, ahead of the auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi. It is made out of dry fruits only. This eco-friendly idol comes to around 20 inches. An array of dry fruits are there in its structure such as walnuts, peanuts, cashew nuts, pine nuts, and almonds. The signature face with the trunk is made out of walnuts and the eyes are made out of cashew nuts. The year 2020 will witness quite muted celebrations on Ganesh Chaturthi. With the ongoing pandemic, people have been advised to stay at home during the festivities and not to take part in huge gatherings. The last day of the festival aka visarjan always witnesses a record-breaking crowd every year but this time, owing to the safety, it is being strongly discouraged. In the midst of this, many people have resorted to the nature around them and come up with Ganesha idols with eco-friendly and sustainable materials. Some of them have seeds in them which can facilitate growing plants in the future. Dr. Mittal's dry fruit Ganesha is not only out of the box but it also serves a very noble and important purpose. Keeping the novel coronavirus in her mind, she has decided to get the idol installed in a hospital that strictly treats COVID-19 patients. Instead of traditional visarjan , the dry fruits from the idol will be distributed to the patients in that hospital.
