Satyendar Jain: Community spread of coronavirus in Delhi

New Delhi, 19-Sep-2020

As Delhi continues to report a spike in its daily coronavirus cases, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said on Saturday that he feels community spread of coronavirus is happening in the national capital. Satyendar Jain also said that the community spread of coronavirus in Delhi should have been admitted by now. Satyendra Jain, however, said only the Central government or the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can comment on the community spread of coronavirus in Delhi. "When people in such large numbers are getting infected in Delhi and other parts of the country, it should've been admitted that there is community spread... but only ICMR or the Central government can comment on this," Satyendar Jain said. Satyendra Jain also said the doubling rate in Delhi is about 40 days. Delhi's coronavirus tally breached the 2.38 lakh mark on Friday as the national capital detected 4,127 fresh cases while the death toll mounted to 4,907, authorities said. The number of rapid-antigen tests conducted on Thursday stood at 49,834, while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT test figures were 11,203, in all adding to 61,037 Covid-19 tests, according to the health bulletin issued by the Delhi government. With 4,432 fresh coronavirus cases, Delhi's coronavirus caseload went over 2.34 lakh on Thursday while the death toll reached 4,877 with 38 fresh fatalities. On Wednesday, the national capital had registered a record single-day spike of 4,473 coronavirus cases, taking the city's infection tally to over 2.30 lakh while 33 more deaths were reported. The previous highest single-day spike of 4,321 cases was recorded on September 12. The number of containment zones in Delhi jumped to 1,751 from 1,670 on Thursday. The positivity rate is 6.76 per cent, a decline from 7.38 per cent the previous day, while the recovery rate is 84.44 per cent, the bulletin said, adding that the case fatality rate stands at 2.05 per cent.
