Diesel gets cheaper for 4th consecutive day; petrol rates unchanged

New Delhi, 28-Sep-2020

The price of diesel has been revised lower for the fourth consecutive day across the country while petrol rates remain unchanged. Diesel rates have been reduced by 9 paise across all cities in the country with effect from 6 am. In New Delhi, diesel price has now come down to Rs 70.71 per litre in comparison to Rs 70.80 on Sunday. Diesel prices have also fallen in major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and others by approximately 9 paise per litre. It may be noted that diesel prices have fallen for four consecutive days, starting from last Friday. On Sunday, diesel rates across the country were lowered by 14 paise per litre. A day before, diesel rates were slashed by 16 paise. The recent fall in diesel prices is in line with a fall in global crude oil prices. However, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have kept petrol prices across the country unchanged despite a fall in global oil prices. Petrol price in New Delhi today remained unchanged at Rs 81.06 per litre. Petrol price continues to be high in places like Mumbai where state taxes are higher on oil prices. In Mumbai, the price of a litre of petrol is currently Rs 87.74. In Jaipur, the price of petrol is even higher than Mumbai at Rs 88.71. While the reduction in diesel prices comes as a relief for several businesses in the country, citizens still continue to suffer due to higher petrol prices amid the ongoing economic slowdown.
