Himachal Pradesh panchayats to go to polls in three phases

Himachal Pradesh Election Commission has announced that the forthcoming panchayat polls in the state will be held in three phases. However, the final schedule of the polling is yet to be finalized. The last Himachal panchayat elections were also held in three phases. According to reports, panchayats which have not been affected by reorganization are expected to go to polls in the first phase of elections. The election commission will prepare a voter list for around 900 new and reorganized panchayats. The preparation of the list will take time and hence, two more phases for polling have been decided. Earlier this year, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar had confirmed, "The polls will be held in 3,226 panchayats in a phased manner and the government will provide face covers, sanitizers, gloves at polling stations as per the Elections Commission guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus."
