Gujarat comes second in e-transactions on government websites

2-Nov-2020

Gujarat ranks second among all states in terms of e-transactions conducted on government portals. The state was earlier ranked third in the list after Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, but has now overtaken the latter in gaining the second spot this year. As of October 28, Gujarat has recorded 67.3 crore visits on e-governance websites. This year the states official websites and e-governance portals have recorded the highest hits in five years, according to government officials. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology records the e-transactions made on the e-governance websites of all the states. There were 19 crore hits related to education services on e-governance websites last year, but this year there were 26 crore visits, according to state government officials. In 2019 almost 10 crore students viewed HSC results and 9.1 crore people viewed SSC results, among the hits on state government education portals. These figures increased to 14.5 crore and 11.5 crore respectively this year. The number of hits on the public distribution system portal this year rose by only 3 crore, compared to last year, although an all-time high was expected, according to a Times of India report. The PDS system generated 9.6 crore PDS eFPS bill receipts and 1.8 crore PDS SMS alerts. The number of visits for utilities and bills on electricity-related portals had halved this year in comparison to the period between January1-October 27 last year, according to state government officials. There was no distribution of electricity bills between April and June this year, which the officials attribute as a reason for fall in the hits. Last year, between January 1-October 27, there were almost 11 crore e-transactions related to electricity services. Across India, e-courts, agriculture, income tax, passport and road transport departments had reported the highest transactions, according to officials.
