Bharat Bandh: No flights delayed or cancelled, airports not affected by farmers' protest; IGI airport peaceful

8-12-2020

While the farmers' protest or the #Kisanandolan - the nationwide farmers' agitation - threatens to throw life out of gear on 8 December 2020 Bharat Bandh day, airports and air traffic within the country remain unaffected. The protesting farmers had threatened to bring the nation to a grinding halt. Train traffic has witnessed some disruptions but flights continue to operate smoothly. A call to the DCP's office (Police Control Room) at the IGI Airport in Delhi confirmed that there has been no disruption in domestic flight schedules and that the police in charge of the security setup at the Indira Gandhi Airport has confirmed that they received no complaints of any unruly behaviour on part of any protesters. In view of the nation-wide "Bharat Bandh" call by various farmers organisations protesting the Centre's new farm laws, Delhi and Haryana Police have issued a travel advisory stating that people may face traffic blockages on various roads and highways.
Traffic advisory: One carriageway of NH 24 for UP to Delhi is closed for traffic at Gazipur border. Likewise, carriageway from Noida to Delhi at Chilla border is closed for traffic.
People may use Apsara border on GT Road, Bhopura border on Wazirabad road and DND flyover for Delhi from UP side. For those facing any problems in accessing the destination via road (applicable also to those rushing to catch a flight), the Delhi Traffic Police tweeted: "Kindly call DTP Helpline at 25844444 or 1095 so that we can assist you better." In view of the situation being fluid, it is advisable that people scheduled to fly from any airport in India to any domestic destination (international flights being shut) are advised to keep a safety (time) margin so as to cover up any loss of time on the road due to sudden disruptions.
