Congress president Sonia Gandhi is celebrating her birthday today. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the Congress chief and wished her �a long and healthy life�. �Birthday greetings to Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji. May God bless her with a long and healthy life,� PM Modi tweeted on Wednesday morning. Gandhi has today turned 74. She has been leading the Congress party for almost 19 years now. For a brief period, Rahul Gandhi had taken charge of the party but quit following the Lok Sabha poll loss last year. Sonia was then back as Congress' interim chief. Gandhi had earlier announced that she would not be celebrating her birthday today in support of the farmers who have been protesting against the farm laws. The Congress chief also chose not to celebrate her birthday in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. "Farmers are on the street-facing the harsh climate and brutal crackdown from the Government. Congress leaders instead of celebrations should strengthen the efforts to provide relief to all those who are suffering and extend support to fighting Anndatas," Gandhi said in her message to all the party in-charges, as per sources. Further, Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal wrote a letter to all state heads of the party and asked them to not hold celebrations including cake cutting, on the occasion of Sonia Gandhi's birthday.
