After JP Nadda, Amit Shah expected to visit West Bengal from December 19-20

11-12-2020

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is expected to visit West Bengal later this month. It would be Shahs second Bengal trip within a months time. Though dates are yet to be announced, reports said that Amit Shah may visit the state for two days from December 19 to 20. The former BJP president will oversee partys preparedness for the West Bengal Assembly Election 2021. Notably, incumbent BJP chief JP Nadda visited poll-bound Bengal from December 10-11. Naddas visit saw a massive war of words between Trinamool Congress and the BJP after the latter alleged that TMC goons pelted stones at its party presidents convoy while he was heading towards to Diamond Harbour area in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Thursday. While addressing the party karyakartas, Nadda also alleged that BJP national general secretary Vijayvargiya, national vice-president Mukul Roy and party leader Anupam Hazra's vehicles were also attacked by alleged Trinamool supporters. A video of Vijayvargiyas car being attacked wth stones was tweeted by the BJP. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of enacting a drama by claiming that the incident of attack on BJP presidents convoy was orchestrated by her party members. "In your (Nadda's) convoy there were 50 cars, followed by 30 cars of the media and 40 motorbikes," Banerjee, who also holds the Home (Police) portfolio, said at a farmers' rally here. "So was it planned?" she asked. The Trinamool chief further attacked BJP saying that how could a Rajya Sabha MP who is guarded by paramilitary forces like the CISF, CRPF be attacked. The Union home ministry sought a report from the Bengal government over the alleged "serious security lapses" during Naddas visit to the state. Meanwhile, Shah attacked the Banerjee-led government and said that Centre is taking the "incident seriously" and the Bengal government "will have to answer to the peace-loving people of the state for this sponsored violence." "Bengal has descended into an era of tyranny, anarchy and darkness under the Trinamool rule. The manner in which political violence has been institutionalised and brought to the extreme in West Bengal under TMC rule is sad and worrying, he tweeted. Shah visited West Bengal for two days from November 5 to 6 and held meetings with partymen in Bankura and Kolkata to take stock of the party organisation ahead of the 2021 assembly polls. It may be noted that the senior BJP leader had met the Matua community members and also had lunch at the residence of Nabin Biswas, a member of the community.
