Study suggests these 4 COVID-19 symptoms may indicate you have longer immunity to virus

12-01-2021

A new study has linked certain symptoms of COVID-19 to the immunity patients may develop after surviving the deadly virus. According to the researchers, experiencing specific symptoms during the course of illness could be a sign that a person is more likely to develop longer, persistent immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The research done by the University of Wisconsin also suggested that hospitalised COVID-19 patients had higher antibody levels against the novel coronavirus than non-hospitalised patients. The findings of the study have been published as a pre-print and have not yet been peer-reviewed.

COVID-19 symptoms that could indicate you have longer-lasting immunity
==============================================================
1. Fever: Having a fever is one of the most common symptom of COVID-19. In some cases, people infected with COVID-19 develop more severe symptoms like high fever, sever cough and shortness of breath. According to the new research, high fever could be a sign that your immune response is generating high levels of antibodies.

2. Appetite loss: It has been found that the new coronavirus affects different people in different ways. Many people who catch COVID-19 experience loss of appetite, loss of smell, among others. The study authors pointed out that experiencing a loss of appetite falls in line with fever as a sign of systemic inflammatory response, indicating that a major immune response many be taking place in the body.

3. Diarrhoea: Some people with COVID-19 infection develop diarrhoea along with other gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting and nausea. Although gastrointestinal symptoms correlate with a more severe disease course, the researchers said they did not see increased diarrhoea in hospitalised COVID-19 patients. The symptom, however, did appear in non-hospitalised patients with higher antibody responses, the authors noted.

4. Abdominal cramps: Abdominal pain has been seen as a common sign of gastrointestinal complications linked with COVID-19. However, the study authors observed that COVID-19 patients who developed stomach pain during the course of illness had more antibodies and longer lasting immunity than those who didnt.
