The parents of a 17-year-old girl and three others were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing the teen in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district. The girl was killed over an alleged affair against the wishes of the family, police said. According to the police, a missing person complaint was lodged by the girl’s father on March 17 in which he claimed that his daughter had been abducted. “On March 18, the body of the girl was seen floating in a well at some distance from the house of the family at Khangwara village under the Sanavad police station. The post mortem report revealed that the girl had not died from drowning. She had strangulation marks on her neck,” the police said. Sub Divisional Officer of Police Man Singh Thakur said there were inconsistencies in the statements of the family members and after questioning it was found that they had killed the girl. The girl was in a relationship with a youth and the girl's family did not approve of the same, he added. The Madhya Pradesh Police arrested five persons for the murder of the 17-year-old. The arrested were identified as victim’s father Rakesh Vansh, mother Rekha Vansh, 18-year-old brother Rohit Vansh, aunt Pinki Anjale, and uncle Mahesh Anjale. “On March 16, all five confronted the victim and asked her to delete the number of the youth from her phone. When the girl refused and tried to escape, the five strangulated her to death. They first kept the body inside the house and later threw it inside a well in the cover of darkness. The next day, the father approached the police and claimed his daughter had gone missing,” police said.
