Honda Cars India, which sells popular sedans like the City and the Amaze, today released the maiden teaser of its upcoming sport utility vehicle (SUV), which will have its global premiere during the summer of 2023. The new Honda SUV has been designed at the Honda R&D Asia Pacific following extensive market surveys in India. According to the company, it has been developed keeping in mind people's changing lifestyle requirements and expectations from Honda for their new SUV in terms of design and performance. From the teaser image, the new Honda SUV looks to have a very bullish stance with an aggressive front. Like most of the new vehicles these days, it gets LED DRLs and LED fog lamps. We expect LED headlamps and taillamps. It might sit on 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels. The cabin of the new Honda SUV is expected to get features like a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument panel and automatic climate control, among others. We are also expecting the new Honda SUV to get a sunroof. Honda currently sells the City (fourth-gen, fifth-gen and hybrid), Amaze, Jazz and WR-V. There have been reports claiming that fourth-gen City, fifth-gen City diesel, Amaze diesel, Jazz and WR-V will be discontinued towards the end of FY23. The company recently told India Today that it will launch its new SUV just before the commencement of the festive season in 2023. While the development process for this 'India-focussed' new SUV is almost complete, Honda will now begin factory preparations, followed by the pre-production operations. Like the company's other models, the new SUV will be manufactured at its Tapukara plant, which is located in Alwar district of Rajasthan. Honda's Tapukara plant has an annual installed production capacity of 180,000 units. However, the capacity utilisation currently stands just above 60%. The company will target utilising the complete capacity following the launch of the new SUV. The capacity might be increased to 200,000 units in case the demand rises.
