Prince Harry has denied calling the British Royal family "racist" in an interview on Sunday. Ahead of the release of his highly-anticipated memoir, Spare, Prince Harry reacted to his and wife Meghan Markle's 2021 interview in which they spoke about a certain family member who inquired about their unborn child's skin colour. The Duke of Sussex told Britain's ITV that he did not accuse the unnamed Royal member of racism, it was the "British press" who did it. "No, I didn't. That Meghan, too, had not called the royals "racist". When further asked about Meghan's remark on comments on Archie's skin colour would essentially describe as racist, Harry said that he wouldn't describe the incident that way. "I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family. He continued, "The difference between racism and unconscious bias..the two things are different." He then said that when an "unconscious bias" isn't acknowledged, it becomes "racism". "Once it's been acknowledged or pointed out to you as an individual, otherwise an institution, that you have unconscious bias, you, therefore, have an opportunity to learn and grow from that, otherwise, unconscious bias then moves into the category of racism. In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told the story of a Royal member who had repeatedly asked them about the skin colour of their unborn son, Archie, during the much-talked-about interview with Oprah Winfrey.Meghan had said, "In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we have in tandem the conversation of, 'you won't be given security, not gonna be given a title' and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born." Prince Harry's memoir Spare will release on January 10.
