The Election Commission is set to announce the schedule for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura assembly elections on Wednesday. The poll panel has convened a press conference at 2.30 pm here for the purpose. While Tripura is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the BJP is part of the ruling coalition in Meghalaya and Nagaland. The five-year term of assemblies of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura is scheduled to end on March 12, March 15, and March 22, respectively. A series of meetings were held last week after a team, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, had visited the three northeastern states. These meetings were held with the political parties of the three states, civil officials and central security officials.
