Filmmaker Rohit Shetty and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone have thanked their fans for the love they have shown their film Chennai Express, which was released 10 years ago today.
Directed by superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the romantic comedy followed his character Rahul, who takes the Chennai Express to Rameshwaram to cremate his late grandfather, and runs into trouble after helping the don's daughter Meenamma (Padukone) and her cousins onto the train.
"Thanks for the love," Shetty posted on Instagram Stories on Tuesday alongside the film's poster, marking his first collaboration with Khan and Padukone. Shetty and Khan then worked together in Dilwale (2015).
Padukone said she is happy that Meenamma "continues to get a lot of love". "They say comedy is the most difficult genre for an actor. So when I was offered Chennai Express, I knew I was up for a daunting challenge. And while it took me a while to find Meenama, a process that is extremely lonely and often scary, I am grateful that we were able to create a character that is not only synonymous with the film, but one that is loved to this day," the actor said in a statement.
Released in 2013, 'Chennai Express' was one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The film was produced by Gauri Khan, Karim Morani, Ronnie Screwala, and Siddharth Roy Kapur. The film was written by Yunus Sajawal.
