Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medalist wrestler Vinesh Phogat attacked outgoing WFI president Brij Bhushan Saran Singh after United World Wrestling (UWW) suspended the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for not holding elections on time.
The national wrestling governing body was supposed to hold elections in June, but the elections were delayed due to legal challenges from various state agencies.
Later, elections to elect new administrators were scheduled to be held on 12 August but were postponed when the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the WFI elections until further orders following a petition by the Haryana Wrestling Association (HWA).
"Indian wrestling has suffered a great loss due to Brij Bhushan. If it is properly assessed, the real picture will emerge. Tricolor has been maligned because of this mob, said Vinesh on X (earlier on Twitter).

With the WFI elections postponed, the UWW on Thursday suspended the Indian body, making it clear that Indian wrestlers must compete under the UWW banner in international competitions.
Olympic bronze medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik also showed their displeasure with Brij Bhushan in Thursday's relay, describing the day as a "black day for Indian wrestling" after UWW suspended the sport's national body.
On April 27, an ad hoc commission formed by the IOA took over the responsibility of organizing the elections and carrying out the daily tasks of the WFI. The panel had to announce fresh union elections within 45 days. In particular, the UWW urged the IOA ad hoc committee in June to meet the deadline. If this is not done, the activity of the association will be suspended.
The WFI is in turmoil as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) set up a monitoring committee to carry out ongoing duties after a large number of wrestlers led by Bajrangi, Sakshi and Vinesh protested. at Janta Mantar in Delhi, accusing Brij Bhushan of femme fatale sexual harassment and general mismanagement and demanding his removal.
