Truth has become a victim and reporting facts can lead to punishment in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said on Monday.
The leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) reacted to the Jammu and Kashmir police's warning of legal action against the BBC over the report "Every Story Could Be the Last: India's Kashmir Against the Press" on the state of journalism in the Union Territory. After the repeal of Article 370.
In X, Mehbooba said, "Since 2019, truth has not only become a victim in Jammu and Kashmir, reporting facts now requires punishment."
Mehbooba, a former chief minister of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, further said, "This BBC report only highlights an inconvenient truth which is also a problem for intolerant agencies, including the SIA (State Investigation Agency)."
