A man's best friend was attacked in the Supreme Court on Monday after a lawyer told Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud how he was chased and attacked by a pack of dogs in his neighborhood. The tied arm of lawyer Kunal Chatterjee, known for his keen eye for finer points of law, could not avoid Chandrachud and he investigated the reason. Chatterjee said he was injured after five stray dogs in his neighborhood swarmed and attacked.
Senior advocate Vijay Hansaria urged the court to take its motu (own) attention to the "menace of stray dogs" in the country.
"Let's see what can be done," the CJI told Hansaria, turning his attention to Chatterjee. The CJI offered to help him and asked, "Do you need medical attention? I can ask the registrar to take you immediately." Referring to a video circulating from Uttar Pradesh, Attorney General Tushar Mehta spoke about the plight of a man whose son Puri was mauled by a rabid dog and died a painful death in his arms.

"This is a serious threat. Recently a video came out. In Uttar Pradesh, dogs bit a child. Usually we don't really care. When rabies developed, he was hospitalized. According to the doctors, nothing can be done, the child died in the father's arms, said the lawyer.
"Two years ago, my lawyer parked his car and was also attacked by stray dogs," the CJI said.
After some lawyers started intervening in court to eliminate the menace of stray dogs, the board got to work.
