A day after the Center asserted that the census would begin soon after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said the census should begin "immediately".
A senior JD(U) leader also said that the census should be completed in 2021 and claimed that "for the first time in a decade, the census has been delayed in the country".
"Why wait for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024...why not now? The decennial census should start immediately. The Center should start counting immediately," Kumar told reporters here when asked about Union Minister Amit's census announcement Shah. "The lecture should be completed in 2021. This is the first time that the decennial census is in the country. There is no need to delay it further. Along with the census, we also wanted caste-based personnel, but the center did not agree. Finally, we conducted a caste-based survey ourselves,” said Kumar.
He argued that a caste-based study that considers social groups other than SC and ST will be "beneficial for all".
“This gives us an opportunity to work for the development of various sections of society, including the poor. This will help us know which areas need development,” said Kumar.

On the women's reservation bill, Kumar said, “The bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha, but what about its implementation? The Center must act quickly to implement the proposals made on reservations for women. It will be really good if it is implemented as soon as possible."

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday almost unanimously approved a bill to reserve one-third of seats for women in the lower house and state assemblies, with the opposition demanding that similar benefits be extended to other backward classes and that the measure be implemented immediately. before next year's elections.
Kumar also said, "I have always supported women's reservation. Representation must be ensured. Our government has ensured adequate representation of women at every opportunity. The representation of women in Bihar is the highest among all states in the country.


He said that SC, ST, OBC and Economically Backward Class (EBC) categories of women must be adequately represented.
