On Thursday, more than two dozen students from various universities and members of various student organizations were detained while protesting the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and NEET irregularities.
Outside of the Ministry of Education and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's residence in central Delhi, the students were detained.
The protest was attended by a large number of students, many of whom were political members of organizations like the Students' Federation of India (SFI), the All India Students Association (AISA), the Democratic Students' Front (DSF), the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), and the NSUI, which is affiliated with the Congress.
Students gathered outside the Education Ministry and Pradhan's house to demand an investigation into the alleged paper leak and a ban on the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the exam.
Following suggestions that the integrity of the exam had been compromised, the Union Education Ministry issued an order to cancel the UGC-NET late Wednesday night. "We have seen monstrous inconsistencies on the aftereffect of NEET-UG announced on June 4. NEET wannabes have been requesting a re-test. However, neither the NTA nor the MoE has fulfilled their requests. "Presently the UGC NET assessment has been dropped because of paper spill... Students have repeatedly been let down by NTA. We request a total rejecting of the NTA," AISA unit of JNU said in an explanation.
