Northeast floods claim 34 lives: PM addresses governors of Manipur, Sikkim, and Assam

June 3, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the crisis brought on by the region's flooding and excessive rainfall with Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.
He promised state authorities his undivided attention and cooperation as they dealt with the flood catastrophe.
After the talk, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Prime Minister had phoned to ask about the state of the floods in Assam.
I told him about the flooding and fatalities caused by the constant rains in Assam and the surrounding states. Additionally, I informed him of the state government's assistance efforts," Sarma stated on X.
According to the Assam Chief Minister, PM Modi voiced his concerns and promised the Central Government's full support for the state's relief and reconstruction initiatives.
The floods in the northeast have claimed the lives of at least 34 individuals. The meteorological service predicts further rain in the region, and the floods have already caused landslides.
