June 5, 2025: Modi will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since Operation Sindoor.
According to sources, a multi-tiered security arrangement has been set up for Prime Minister Naredra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, when he would dedicate many development projects totaling more than Rs 46,000 crore in Katra and officially open the long-awaited Kashmir rail link.
This would be Modi's first trip to the Union Territory since the Indian Armed Forces' Operation Sindoor, which was a response to the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22 that killed 26 people, primarily tourists.
Before launching the Vande Bharat trains to commemorate the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link (USBRL), which will offer direct train connectivity to the valley, Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate the Chenab bridge and India's first cable-stayed Anji bridge, which represents the country's engineering prowess.
At Katra, the base camp for pilgrims traveling to the Vaishno Devi shrine atop the Trikuta hills in the Reasi district, Modi will also lay the cornerstone, inaugurate, and dedicate to the country a number of development projects valued at over Rs 46,000 crore.
At an estimated cost of Rs 43,780 crore, the 272 km long USBRL project consists of 943 bridges and 36 tunnels totaling 119 km.
With the goal of transforming regional mobility and promoting socioeconomic integration, the project creates seamless, all-weather rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the nation.
Additionally, two Vande Bharat Express trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar and back will be flagged off by Prime Minister Modi. They will provide locals, visitors, pilgrims, and others with a quick, cozy, and dependable transport choice.

Modi will lay the cornerstone and open a number of road projects to significantly improve last-mile connectivity, particularly in border regions.
He will lay the cornerstone for the more than Rs 1,952 crore Shopian bypass road on NH-444 and the road widening project from Rafiabad to Kupwara on NH-701.
Additionally, he will open two flyover constructions at Bemina Junction on National Highway-44 and Sangrama Junction on National Highway-1 in Srinagar. For commuters, these projects will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will lay the cornerstone for the more than Rs 350 crore Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra. It will be the first medical school in the Reasi district to make a significant contribution to the area's healthcare system.
Phased commissioning of 209 km of the 272 km USBRL project began in October 2009 with the 118 km Qazigund-Baramulla section, followed by the 18 km Banihal-Qazigund in June 2013, the 25 km Udhampur-Katra in July 2014, and the 48.1 km Banihal-Sangaldan stretch in February of last year.
A total of 17 kilometers remained between Reasi and Katra after the 46-km Sangaldan-Reasi segment was finished in June of last year. This section was ultimately finished in December 2024.
According to officials, a high security alert has been issued throughout Jammu and Kashmir in anticipation of the Prime Minister's arrival, with senior military, police, paramilitary, and intelligence personnel keeping a close eye on the situation.
The security grid on the borders and the hinterland has been further strengthened to prevent the infiltration and movement of anti-national and subversive elements, officials said, adding that heavy security deployments have been made in and around the venues with the newest technology, including drones, to maintain a close vigil.
According to the officials, the security measures have also increased the area dominance and searches on the homes of suspected individuals, such as Over Ground Workers and relatives of terrorists working from over the border.
Shiv Kumar, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Jammu-Kathua-Samba range, instructed the local officers to maintain their vigilance during a visit to border areas on Wednesday.
According to the officials, there may be traffic diversions or closures on a number of highways leading to Katra Stadium, the location of Modi's public event, on Friday.
