June 6, 2025: At the Archery World Cup Stage 3, Indian compound archers were let down because none of them advanced to the individual medal rounds on Friday.
India has not yet opened their medal account here. At the previous stage in Shanghai, they finished second behind South Korea with two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
Fifth-seeded Mariana Bernal of Mexico defeated fourth-seeded Madhura Dhamangaonkar, the previous World Cup champion, in the quarterfinals. Madhura's loss in the women's solo division was 152-159. Madhura struggled to find her flow following an opening round score of 29 out of a possible 33, but Mariana remained steady throughout.
Additionally, world champion Aditi Swami lost to second-seeded Andrea Becerra of Mexico 147-152 in the round of eight.
In the quarterfinals of the men's division, France's 28th seed Nicolas Girard defeated 13th seed Rishabh Yadav 149-157. In the pre-quarterfinals, Yadav had already defeated senior colleague Abhishek Verma 157-154.
Ojas Deotale, the world champion, lost to James Lutz of the USA 157-161 in the first round, causing a shocking elimination.
At this point, the new scoring rule seemed to be difficult for the Indian compound archers to understand.
The 'X' ring, the innermost circle, now counts as 11 points, increasing the perfect score each round (three arrows) from 30 to 33, beginning with the Antalya leg.
India had also lost badly in the team competitions earlier on Thursday, both in the compound and recurve divisions. Now, they will try to save their campaign.
