June 6, 2025: On Friday, former Indian cricket player Piyush Chawla declared his retirement from all forms of the game. Chawla announced his retirement on his Instagram account.
"I am ending this chapter with thankfulness! I am retiring from all gaming types and would like to thank everyone for their support over this wonderful adventure.
Piyush Chawla's early influence is well-known. He played for Uttar Pradesh U-22 and India Under-19 when he was fifteen years old. During his first season in the first division, he helped Uttar Pradesh (UP) win their first Ranji Trophy by taking 35 wickets and scoring 224 runs.
He claimed 14 wickets during India's 2007 tour of England and Ireland, regularly worrying Kevin Pietersen with his straighter deliveries and googlies. He took three wickets on his 2007 ODI debut in Bangladesh.
Piyush Chawla has had difficulty making a name for himself in the Indian test team after Anil Kumble retired from Test cricket and was replaced by Amit Mishra, a more conventional legspinner.
He also remained closer to the ODI team thanks to a great showing in the first IPL.
However, he was ordered back to play domestic cricket in order to concentrate on honing his talents after a lackluster Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2008.
Following his selection for the 2010 T20 World Cup and subsequent inclusion in the 2011 World Cup squad, Chawla unexpectedly returned to the team.
During his 35 appearances for India in all formats, Chawla claimed 43 wickets at an economy rate of 4.75 and an average of 35.76.
He played for the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings during his prosperous career in the Indian Premier League. In 192 matches, he claimed 192 wickets with an economy rate of less than eight and an average of 26.60.
