July 5, 2025: According to officials, five buses collided in the Ramban district on Saturday, injuring at least 36 Amarnath pilgrims. From Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu, the buses were part of a group traveling to Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir. According to authorities, the incident occurred near Chanderkoot on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. They claimed that one of the buses' brakes failed, causing it to hit two other vehicles and cause the accident. The injured received immediate medical attention. The convoy left for its destination after the damaged buses were replaced, officials said.
The fourth batch of 6,979 pilgrims -- 5,196 men, 1,427 women, 24 children, 331 sadhus and sadhvis and one transgender -- left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in two separate convoys between 3.30 am and 4.05 am.
While 4,226 pilgrims traveled in 161 vehicles to Nunwan base camp to take the traditional Pahalgam route, which is 48 kilometers long, 2,753 pilgrims traveled in 151 vehicles to take the shorter but steeper Baltal route, which is 14 kilometers long.
