Aug 12, 2025: In a moment of pride for athletics, 22-year-old Amandeep Kaur clinched a gold medal in the 800-metre race and a bronze medal in the 1500-metre race in the ongoing World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
"I was the only girl from Punjab, and winning two medals feels like a dream come true. "I can't even begin to express how happy I am," Amandeep shared with joy over the phone. "My second race was just a half an hour after my first 800m run." In the 800-meter race, Kaur finished in an impressive 2:04.31 seconds, securing the top spot on the podium. She also displayed commendable endurance and speed in the 1500m, finishing the race in 4:27.14 minutes to secure a third-place finish.
A tale of grit and determination lies behind these accomplishments. Amandeep has overcome significant financial obstacles to reach this point despite coming from a modest family in which her mother is a domestic worker and her father is a laborer. Deepak Kumar, her Dasuya coach, was extremely proud of her journey and accomplishments. Amandeep is a member of Moga and has been in contact with her coach, Deepak Kumar, for the past two years. I am aware of her struggles. She comes from a family that struggles financially, and in order for her to participate in any competition, we have to pool our resources,� Kumar stated. But I've seen her develop into a world-class athlete over the past two years. Her hard work and dedication are beyond description. We all are incredibly proud of her.�
