Aug 18, 2025: Today, NHPC Limited's flagship CSR initiative, Shiksha Rath 7.0, came to an end here. Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC, Turtuk, the Executive Councilor, LAHDC, and local villagers and Self-Help Group (SHG) women were among the chief guests at the event. The motive behind the event was inauguration of home stay units developed with NHPC’s CSR support to promote border tourism and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Additionally, thirty sewing machines were given to women who successfully completed USHA International's professional tailoring training. Certificates were awarded to acknowledge the skills and determination of the participants, marking a significant step towards women’s empowerment.

Turtuk, Tyakshi, Thang-Chathang, Bogdang, Chalunkha, Dhotang, and Thang were the seven isolated border villages in Ladakh that were the focus of the event, which began on October 6, 2024. The program focused on important developmental areas like education, skill development, health and hygiene awareness, and sustainable livelihoods. The installation of sanitary pad vending machines to encourage menstrual hygiene, the improvement of the infrastructure for digital education in schools, handloom training programs to preserve traditional crafts, promotion of homestays to support local entrepreneurship, and the installation of a stargazing telescope in Turtuk to encourage youth tourism and scientific curiosity were notable interventions. NHPC Limited continues to demonstrate its dedication to inclusive, sustainable development in some of India's most remote and strategically important regions through Shiksha Rath 7.0.
