Programme for Capacity Building in Geospatial Technologies Concludes

Valedictory function of the “Winter School Training Programme for Capacity Building in Geospatial Technologies”, under Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS), was held here today in the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS University of Jammu.
On the occasion, Prof R D Sharma, JU Vice Chancellor, was the chief guest where as Dr Ashok K Singh, Principal Scientific Officer NRDMS DST, Govt of India, was the special guest.
The Vice Chancellor, while interacting with the participants, said that University of Jammu was emerging as one of the leading centre of the Geospatial technology in the Northern India with advanced lab and latest softwares of Geospatial technology. He also gives away the certificate to the participants who have now a great understanding about the geospatial technologies
Dr Ashok K Singh, speaking on this occasion, expressed satisfaction over the way in which 21-day programme was conducted. He said that the DST is heavily supporting the Universities and Institutes in the Geospatial technologies to make India a digital India at the earliest. He said that NRDMS is one of the Wings, which supports funding the Institutions like other schemes of the DST such as SAP, FIST, PURSE, INSPIRE to promote the scientific culture in the Universities to make India a scientific enabled nation by 2020. He also said that all the digital map of the India can be downloaded and uploaded in the national GIS portal which is the mega GIS portal of the Govt of India.
Prof A S Jasrotia, Head Department of Remote Sensing & GIS and Course Coordinator of this mega programme, briefed about programme and said that during these 21 days, resource person from various parts of North India were invited to deliver the lecturers on the basis of the guidelines laid down by the Institute of Environment Education and Research, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune and funding agency NRDMS, DST Govt. of India.
