Toyota has captured the market in the D-segment sedan with the Corolla Altis in India and now the company will enter the premium car segment in the country with the Lexus brand. Reportedly, Toyota's premium brand Lexus will make as official announcement on March 24 and will make its entry with the LX 450, ES300h and the RX450h. Initially, the Japanese automaker will start its operation with its existing Toyota dealerships, while Lexus might establish its own network dealership at later stages.

The sixth-generation of the Lexus ES300h was showcased at the New York Auto Show 2012, where in 2015 the model received an update in a facelift form. It is based on Toyota Camry hybrid and incorporates the same 2.5-litre petrol unit coupled to a CVT unit that cranks out 158 bhp of maximum power with 213 Nm of peak torque. The ES dons a sharper design as compared to the Camry, whereas the cabin boasts of more premium features. The model will make its entry in the country through CBU route from Japan. It is expected to get a price tag of Rs 60 lakh (ex showroom) and will rival compete with the likes of the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Lexus debuted in the premium crossover segment with the RX 450X, which is based on the Toyota Harrier. The fourth-generation of the model made its launch at the 2015 New York Motor Show, where the car displayed its bold appearance as compared to its predecessor. It also featured a floating roof design along with the new spindle grille. The crossover shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Kluger, which is a Hyundai Santa Fe rival in the global market. The Lexus RX 450h is powered by a 3.5-litre powertrain with 304 bhp and this too will be imported to the Indian shore in CBU form. It expected to be epriced around Rs 1.20 crore (ex showroom) and will lock its horns with Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6, and the Volvo XC90. The car has already arrived at the dealership’s stockyard in the country.

Company’s flagship offering, the Lexus LX 450d is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser and is offered in both petrol and diesel engines. However, the Japanese manufacturer will launch the diesel variant in the country followed by the petrol counterpart on later stages. The diesel version comes with similar off-road tech as the Land Cruiser and also comes equipped with dynamic radar cruise control (vehicle automatically adjusts the throttle to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead). However, it is not confirmed that same model will be introduced in India. It is expected to price around Rs 2.34 lakh (ex showroom) and will compete with the Land Rover Range Rover in India.
