The Jammu and Kashmir Government, which has been trying to exploit the tourism potential of the state, has been apathetic towards a famous tourist spot of the Jammu region, which was one of the favourite destinations of schoolchildren.

About 35 km from Jammu city, the Jhajhar Kotli resort is situated on the banks of a fresh water stream on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

However, the resort is in a shambles and has become a safe haven for drug addicts.
The resort has been left abandoned. The park is littered, canteen and the cafeteria of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) have been locked for the past five years. Moreover, there is no security to keep a check on the activities on the resort premises.
“It could have been developed as one of the most attractive tourist destinations of Jammu as there is no such place in for picnic and people of Jammu and Vaishni Devi pilgrims love to visit picnic spots,” said Randhir Singh, a local shopkeeper.

“Nowadays, it has become a place for addicts. The state government talks about exploring new tourist destinations in the state, but has itself killed a famous spot in Jammu,” he added. The Tourism Department, which is responsible for the upkeep of the resort, seems to have turned a blind to it.
