The Awami Action Committee (AAC), which is headed by Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, rued the government curbs on “peaceful political activities” and unabated use of pellet guns against “innocent” Kashmiris.

The party in a statement said Mirwaiz presided over a meeting of the committee of its working and central committee members, during which the current political situation and developments in the Valley in the context of people’s ongoing “political struggle” were discussed. It said that the meeting expressed “grief and sorrow” over the killing of Kashmiris across the Valley, including the killing of 15-year-old Amir Nazir at the hands of the Indian forces during the past few days.

“The participants said such measures have neither in the past nor will they in the future be of any consequence in suppressing peoples’ movement. All that they do is strengthen people’s resolve further to fight the occupation,” the committee said while extending its sympathy to the bereaved families.
Asserting that the Kashmir dispute was neither a law and order problem nor a bilateral territorial issue between India and Pakistan, the participants said the issue was primarily about the people of Kashmir and their demand for the basic right to decide their political future.

The meeting also condemned the sealing of Jamia Masjid by the Army and the police forces, particularly on Fridays, which they said was done to prevent people from offering prayers.
