Main opposition in the state National Conference (NC) president and former union minister Farooq Abdullah today filed his nomination papers for Srinagar parliamentary constituency, bypoll for which will be held on April 9.

Dr Abdullah, who was accompanied by NC working president Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other senior NC and Congress leaders, today filed his nomination papers for the bypolls at the office of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar.

NC and Congress have already announced a pre-poll alliance according to which Mr Abdullah, who is a three-time chief minister, will contest from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, while JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir will try his luck from Anantnag parliamentary constituency.

Srinagar Parliamentary seat fell vacant in September last year, after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hamid Karra resigned from the Lok Sabha and party membership. Mr Karra, who defeated Dr Abdullah in 2014 general Lok Sabha polls, later joined the Congress after resigning from PDP.
