Assam police arrests 3,449 lockdown violators, collects Rs 1.50 crore as penalty

Assam police have arrested 3,449 people and seized 21,366 vehicles for violations in the state amid coronavirus lockdown. According to the information shared by Assam police, during this period, a penalty of Rs 1.50 crore has been collected from the lockdown violators in the state. A total of 1,585 cases for lockdown violations have been registered at different police stations in the state till April 29. The vehicles seized include 19,326 two-wheelers, 1,719 four-wheelers across the state. On the other hand, Assam police have so far arrested 49 people including an Assam legislator, security personnel across the state who spread fake information about coronavirus on social media and registered 94 cases at different police stations. Out of 49 arrested, 12 people were released on bail. To enforce the lockdown, several districts police have used drones to monitor the activities of people. Assam has reported 41 positive cases for Covid-19 so far.
