With the recovery of three persons on Thursday, Jammu district is now free from coronavirus. The first person in the district was tested positive on March 8. The number of virus cases reached 26 on April 14, the highest ever. “Within 53 days, the biggest district of J&K has become free from coronavirus as people have religiously followed the lockdown protocol,” said a senior doctor at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Four patients — three from Jammu and one from Udhampur — were discharged from Chest Disease Hospital and Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, after recovery on Thursday. Those discharged included a GMC doctor from Jammu, mother of a doctor and a Class IV employee of a private hospital. While Jammu district has become free from coronavirus, only five positive virus cases are left in the whole Jammu province, which has 10 districts. Of the 10 districts, Jammu, Samba, Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda are free from the coronavirus. Udhampur, Rajouri, Kathua, Ramban and Reasi districts have one virus case each. “One more from Udhampur recovered. Only one active case now. At no cost this should make us complacent and ignorant to routine advisories. Best wishes,” tweeted Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur. The situation is encouraging in the district as all 26 positive virus cases have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. In Udhampur district, of the total 20 infected persons, 18 have recovered, one has died and only one virus case is now active. In the last 16 days, no positive virus case has been reported in Jammu district, while Samba and Kishtwar districts are already free from the virus. The Jammu region has a 72 per cent recovery rate and all 10 districts are showing trend reversal as compared to the other parts of the country. As per reports, 60 per cent of the cases in the Jammu division are related to Tablighi Jamaat. The latest case from the Mahore area of Reasi was associated with the Tablighi Jamaat.
