In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old pregnant was allegedly sold by her parents in Vadodara district of Gujarat. The incident took place in Shinor taluka of the district. Police have now arrested the parents and paramour of the girl and lodged them in a quarantine facility. According to a report, the girl filed a complaint after her paramour Vikas Vasava asked her to return to her parents' home on June 1. The girl was in living in relationship with Vasava and her parents knew about their relations. The girl's father gave her custody to Vasava for Rs 50,000 after he learnt that she was pregnant. According to police, the victim's family refused to accept her and forged a deal with Vasava. The girl too knew about her father's agreement with Vasava but did not speak up as she was living happily with Vasava. The report further suggests that a relative of the girl instigated her father to extort more money from Vasava. "The relative told the victim's father that Rs 50,000 was a small amount and he should have asked for at least Rs 5 lakh as the girl is still minor. The man then demanded more money from Vasava to keep his daughter," said a police official. Vasava refused to pay extra money as he was working as a casual labourer. As the man continued to pressurize Vasava for more money, he asked his live-in partner to go back to her home.
