COVID-19: Five states report 60 per cent of total COVID-19 cases in India

India recorded yet another highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases at 97,570 in the last 24 hours, and around 60 per cent of this spike was seen in just five states, confirmed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday. Apart from the spike, the country also witnessed a record-breaking number of recoveries from the deadly disease in a single day. According to the latest bulletin by the Health Ministry, out of the total 97,570 fresh cases reported yesterday, Maharashtra reported over 24,000 new cases while Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka reported over 9,000 cases each. 60 per cent of the total cases were reported from five states - Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. In the past 24 hours, 1,201 virus-related deaths were registered. 36 per cent of these deaths reported yesterday are from Maharashtra with 442 deaths followed by Karnataka with 130 deaths. Of the total, 69 per cent deaths were concentrated in the above-mentioned five states, said the Health Ministry. As per the ministry, the highest single-day recoveries at 81,533 were also registered in the last 24 hours. Around 60% of the total recovered cases were reported from five states - Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and UP. Total recoveries in the country have crossed 36,24,196 taking the Recovery Rate from COVID-19 to 77.77 per cent, stated the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that a total of 5,51,89,226 samples have been tested in India for COVID-19 up to September 11 and 10,91,251 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
