Major blast in Paris, sound heard all over city and nearby suburbs

A major blast was heard in Paris and adjoining suburbs today. The sound of the explosion could be heard across the city and the suburbs, Reuters reported. According to BMF TV, the sound was caused by an airplane breaking the sound barrier.

It was unclear what caused the blast and there were no immediate reports of any smoke or fire being seen in the city.

Reports quoted eyewitnesses as saying that buildings rocked as the blast was heard.

The French police confirmed that the noise was caused by a fighter jet. The police urged the people to stop calling emergency services regarding the noise in order to avoid occupying the telephone lines.
