India stands with France in fight against terrorism, PM Narendra Modi condemns terror attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Thursday to condemn the recent terrorist attacks in France. The tweet was in response to a knife attack reported from the French city of Nice where a woman was beheaded and two others killed earlier in the day. In a tweet from his personal Twitter handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I strongly condemn the recent terrorist attacks in France, including today's heinous attack in Nice inside a church."

Reiterating India's commitment to the fight against terrorism, PM Modi went on to add, "Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of France. India stands with France in the fight against terrorism."

Earlier this week, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement in support of French President Emmanuel Macron over his remarks on Islam and radicalism. "We strongly deplore the personal attacks in unacceptable language on President Emmanuel Macron in violation of the most basic standards of international discourse," the MEA's statement said.

Responding to the statement, French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain said in a tweet, "Thank you @MEAIndia. France and India can always count on each other in the fight against terrorism."

Led by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a number of primarily Islamic countries came out in opposition to French President Macron's remarks.
