Police have recovered the body of a BJP worker from Keshiyari area of West Midnapore district on Saturday morning at a time when voting was on for the first phase of Bengal assembly election. The deceased BJP worker has been identified as 35-year-old Mangal Soren, a resident of Begumpur area in Keshiyari. The incident took place at a time when the district is voting in the first phase of assembly election after high octane campaign for months. Meanwhile in East Midnapore’s Uttar Kanthi, a group of BJP karyakartas were allegedly attacked on Friday night. The group of BJP workers were attacked at booth number 178 in Fulbari of Uttar Kanthi, in which four were left injured. On the first day of polling in West Bengal, TMC accused the BJP of capturing several polling booths in Midnapore while the saffron party accused TMC of malpractices. A delegation of TMC MPs will be meeting West Bengal Chief Election Officer (CEO) at 12 noon to "raise some serious concerns" even as voting for the first phase of assembly elections was underway. A BJP delegation led by Kailash Vijayvargiya is also scheduled to meet the CEO at 2 pm.
