The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear the matter pertaining to Uttarakhand's Joshimath land subsidence, saying that everything important in the country doesn’t need to come up before the court as there are democratically elected governments. The petitioner had sought the top court's intervention to declare the crisis in Joshimath a national disaster. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Advocate Parmeshwar Nath Mishra, appearing for Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, had mentioned the case for urgent hearing, There are other democratically elected governments that can take care of the things. Saraswati, in his plea, had contended that the situation in the Joshimath occurred due to large-scale industrialisation and sought immediate financial assistance and compensation to the people of Uttarakhand. The plea has also sought direction from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to actively support the Joshimath residents in this challenging time.
