Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh appeared before the Supreme Court today to answer questions on ethnic violence and the actions taken.
Meanwhile, Attorney General R Venkataramani submitted a report on the allocation of cases by the state police. The state government is dealing with the situation at a very mature level, the AG said in the Supreme Court, referring to the proposal to set up SITs.
The Supreme Court proposed to constitute a committee of three former HC judges to look into relief and rehabilitation. The Supreme Court said its aim is to restore faith and trust in the rule of law.
The monitoring committee announced that former Chief Justice of J and K Gita Mittal will head a three-member committee of former judges. Judges (Evolved) Shalini P Joshi and Asha Menon are the other two judges on the panel.
