According to officials of the Biden administration, the United States, Japan, and South Korea will sign a new security agreement, which obliges the three countries to consult each other in the event of a security crisis or threat in the Pacific.

Details of the new "negotiating commitment" emerged as President Joe Biden prepared to welcome South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to the Camp David presidential retreat on Friday.
The move is one of several joint efforts the leaders are expected to announce at the day's summit as the three countries seek to strengthen security and economic ties amid growing concerns about North Korea's continued nuclear threats and Chinese provocations in the Pacific.

Kishida told reporters before leaving Tokyo that the summit would be a "historic event."
