Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for South Africa on Tuesday to attend the 15th BRICS summit and hold several bilateral meetings, including an expected meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In his resolution, the prime minister was convinced that the BRICS summit would provide a useful opportunity for members to identify areas of future cooperation and review institutional development.
"We appreciate that BRICS has become a forum for discussion and reflection on issues affecting the entire Global South, including development needs and reforming the multilateral system," he added.
He said that this summit will provide a useful opportunity for the BRICS countries to identify areas of future cooperation and review institutional developments. “I am going to South Africa to attend the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. I also participate in BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue events. The summit will be a forum to discuss the concerns of the Global South and other developing regions, Prime Minister Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that he is also looking forward to interacting with the leaders of various visiting countries who have been invited to participate in the event. "I am also looking forward to bilateral meetings with some of the heads of state in Johannesburg," he said.
The prime minister will visit Johannesburg from 22 to 24 August. It is the first in-person BRICS summit since 2019, with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa participating.
