Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul returned to the Indian squad while youngster Tilak Verma got his maiden ODI call-up as the BCCI today announced the 17-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Rahul and Iyer underwent surgery for thigh and back injuries and did not play a competitive match for several months. There was speculation that the duo would miss out, but chief selector Ajit Agarkar said the decision was taken so that the two senior batsmen could get "enough cricket" ahead of the World Cup.

Tilak Varma's decent form in T20Is earned him a place.
- We still have a month and a half until the World Cup. Hopefully, they (Iyer and Rahul) will get enough cricket up front,” Agarkar said.
The Asia Cup, hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, begins on August 30. India will also host Australia in the ODI series ahead of the World Cup in October-November.

However, it is still not clear whether Rahul will be available for India's opener against Pakistan on the 2nd of September "Some important guys are coming back from injuries and I hope they will do well. Shreyas has been declared fit but Rahul has heartburn, Agarkar said.
"It's a bit of a setback for KL but we hope it's okay. Rahul will play as a wicket-keeper batsman in the team. Hopefully, he'll be available from the first game, though we expect him to be ready for the second or third game. ,” added the former India pacer.
