Addressing the border issue, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said everyone living in Ladakh knows that China has "taken our land" and asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claim that not even an inch of land has been taken is "absolutely false".

The former Congress president's remarks came after Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The discussion was not a structured bilateral meeting but was informal.

“I passed through Ladakh last week on a motorbike... Ladakh is a strategic place and when I was at Pangong Lake it was clear that China had captured thousands of kilometers of Indian land. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister is making a statement in the opposition meeting that not even a single penny has been taken from our land, which is a "total lie", he said while addressing a public meeting here on the last day of his nine-day tour from Ladakh.
