Patwaris and kanungos in Punjab under the aegis of The Revenue Patwar Union have announced that they will continue their pen strike from Friday.
They, on the other hand, only do flood work in the Patwari district where they are posted and not in revenue districts where Patwari posts are vacant.
Out of 4,716 revenue districts, patwaris are posted in only 1,500 districts.
Patwaris and Kanungos threatened to strike in a meeting held on September 1, Saturday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann yesterday warned them not to continue the pencil strike. ESMA regulations were also applied against them. The union plans to appeal the ruling to the court.

As many as 3,000 Patwari areas are lying vacant, Union president Harvir Singh Dhindsa said. "We were assured that the training period of new patwaris would be shortened from 18 months to one year and CM Mann also informed us about it, but this has not been done. Moreover, the trainees are getting only 167 rupees per day as wages during the training period. They are leaving their jobs because the government has increased their training by six months," he said. The government is forcing us to work more because they are not ready to fill the 3,000 vacant positions," he added.
"The revenue officials also claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party, when it was in opposition in 2021, was against the hiring of retired patwaris. But when they came to power, they themselves started re-hiring the pensioners," he said.
