West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has maintained that India is Bharat, on Tuesday questioned the sudden move that the country should be called only Bharat.
Referring to the controversy over the G20 dinner invitation in the name of "President of Bharat", he said the world knows the country as India.
"I heard that India's name has been changed. The G20 invitation sent on behalf of the Honorable President says Bharat. We call the country Bharat, what's new here? In English we say India... There is nothing new to do. The world knows us, Indiana. What suddenly happened that the name of the country has to be changed?" he asked, talking about the government's mission here.
"History is being rewritten in the country," he added. No official information about this has yet been received from the government. The G20 summit will be held under the presidency of India on September 9 and 10 in Delhi, and the event will be attended by several heads of state from around the world, including US President Joe Biden.
Banerjee also attacked Governor CV Ananda Bose, alleging that he had withheld bills passed by the state assembly.
"The actions of the governor are an attempt to paralyze the state administration. He cannot keep the financial bills," he said. "I will sit on a dharna outside the Raj Bhavan if necessary," he said.
The chief minister also alleged that the governor interfered in the functioning of schools, colleges, and universities in the state.
"If the governor continues to interfere with the universities, we will block the money," he said.

As the chancellor of public universities, the governor on Sunday evening appointed interim vice-chancellors in seven universities, including the prestigious MAKAUT Presidency University and Burdwan University.
Interim vice-chancellors of nine other universities have also been finalized and appointment letters will be sent "soon", sources said.
