DP MP Jayadev Galla, who was protesting against the Jaganmohan Reddy government's move to pass the AP Decentralisation Bill on Monday to have 3 capital cities in Andhra Pradesh, has been arrested.

Police have filed non-bailable cases filed against Jayadev Galla after he engaged in a scuffle with police and was injured during the protests in Amaravati. Galla was produced before Mangalagiri Magistrate post-midnight and was remanded to custody till January 31.

Several protests, rallies, and vandalism were seen in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Amaravati on Monday as the Jagan Reddy government passed the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 amid protests by the Opposition in assembly.

Top developments:
1. TDP MP Jayadev Galla has been arrested after he clashed with Andhra Pradesh Police during the protests on Monday. Non-bailable cases have been filed against Jayadev Galla. He has been remanded in custody for 10 days.

2. Galla said, "I'm fighting for the future generations of Andhraites who will be burdened by the economic cost of running 3 capitals, for the Amaravati farmers who will be ruined for expecting the Government to meet their commitments, and for a world-class capital that we all deserve."

3. Hundreds of farmers and women in Amaravati defied prohibitory orders and broke security cordon to reach the state legislature complex to protest against the AP Decentralisation Bill. Police resorted to lathi-charge and clashed with the protesters.

4. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu also staged a protest outside the Andhra Pradesh assembly but his attempt to lay siege on the House failed due to heavy security presence.

5. The AP Decentralisation Bill provides for dividing the state into various zones and establishing zonal planning and development boards. The Jagan government plans to establish three capitals - executive capital in Visakhapatnam, legislative in Amaravati and judicial in Kurnool.

6. Developing Amaravati as the Andhra Pradesh capital was Chandrababu Naidu's dream project in the previous government, which has now been somewhat derailed by the Jagan government with this move.

7. The Jagan government has justified the 3-capital proposal to bring better governance and overall development of the state. However, the Opposition led by Naidu has said the concept of having 3 capitals is "bizarre" and robs Amaravati of the development it was promised. Naidu has said the high-handedness of the Jagan government has alienated the people.

8. Farmers who gave up their land to build the city of Amaravati are up in arms and staged a massive protest outside the Andhra Pradesh assembly in the city on Monday, leading to clashes with the police.

9. 17 MLAs of the Telugu Desam Party were suspended from the assembly for disrupting Chief Minister Reddy's address on the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020.

10. The protesting MLAs stormed the podium during Jagan Reddy's address and raised slogans demanding that Chandrababu Naidu be allowed to continue with his address. They also raised 'Jai Amaravati' slogans during the address of the Leader of the House.

11. The House marshals forcibly evicted the protesting legislators from the Andhra Pradesh assembly, after which the chief minister continued with his address.

12. About 700 to 800 protesters, including a large number of women, from villages like Mandadam, Velagapudi and Tulluru ran across the barren fields and reached the rear periphery of the Legislature complex.
