The much-awaited film Don 3 is finally coming true but with a new star in the lead role. Actor Farhan Akhtar, who directed Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011), both starring Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, announced on social media on Tuesday that work on the film will begin in 2025. On the legacy of veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and the SRK's larger-than-life character Don, Farhan wrote on social media, "A character created in 1978 by Salim-Javed and effortlessly played by Amitabh Bachchan. That enigmatic figure was Don."

The character of Don was written by Farhan's father Javed Akhtar along with his then-creative partner Salim Khan, father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Farhan further mentioned, “In 2006, Shah Rukh Khan redesigned Don and brought it to life in his own irresistibly charming way. As a writer and director, I had the pleasure of creating not one but two Don films with Shah Rukh, and both experiences are still very close to my heart. However, Farhan said that the third part of the series will have another actor in the lead role.
